Permanent Makeup
Wound healing is a science; every PMU artist should know how the products they advise their clients to use, effect the wound healing process. There is a lot of conflicting information out there and a lot of it is unscientific and will instead hinder the healing process!! When an artist is advising dry healing or asking you to put a thick barrier like petroleum on your wound, this should be a big red flag, they don’t understand the healing process. Dry healing or suffocating wounds with barriers will allow bacteria to invade by disrupting the body’s natural fibrin matrix.
Hydration is the single most important external factor for wound healing.
Keeping the skin moist and hydrated with a breathable barrier means – faster wound healing, lower infection rate, increased cell proliferation, promotion of cellular regeneration and reduced scarring.
Please do not use – Vaseline, synthetic beeswax, any petroleum or paraffin wax products, it has no nutritional value to the skin, it will delay healing and will put the wound at a higher risk of infection.
The aftercare products I provide are created to aid and support wound healing, are scientifically proven, anti-inflammatory, skin nourishment, cruelty free, 100% natural ingredients and create an all important breathable barrier.
Permanent makeup is a two stage treatment which should include a retouch around 6 weeks later. It should not be any sooner to allow for the skin to heal and reduce the possibility of scarring. Mature clients should wait 8- 12 weeks. In many cases some unevenness of colour upon healing is perfectly normal and why we allow the 2 sessions to perfect the treatment. It also allows both client and technician to see how the colour has settled and if any adjustments are required.
The pigment colours are applied to the skin using fine needles, as a result some swelling may occur. Ice packs in a clean surgical glove or similar can be applied if needed.
Avoid touching the area and keep it clean. Avoid any excessive sweating and sports activities. No saunas, steam treatments or swimming until the area has fully healed.
Keep the area completely clean and dry for the first 6 hours. If during these 6 hours there is any weeping / lymping you can clean it with the provided MicroTonic.
After this, using a clean gauze pad gently wipe the area with MicroTonic or cooled boiled water using a gentle sweeping motion in one direction over the brow.
Pat dry, using a clean cotton bud and apply a small amount of MicroBalm.
Repeat 2-3 time a day.
During the week following the treatment colour will appear darker than it will be after the healing process.
The pigmented area will appear slightly raised, and you can expect some itchiness. Do not pick or scratch and continue to avoid any excessive sweating, swimming, saunas and steam treatments.
Around day 5/6 you may experience some flaking. Continue to avoid disrupting the area, picking this will cause colour loss.
Allow the skin to heal naturally. Do not apply any makeup until the skin has completely healed.
Continue to apply MicroTonic & MicroBalm 2-3 times a day.
If the colour looks as though it has completely gone as the scabs fall this is perfectly normal. Please do not panic. New skin is forming which will disguise the pigment until it becomes clear. Within a few days the colour will return and become brighter.
Do not tint or wax your eyebrows for at least 6 weeks following the treatment. The area should be kept clean and free of makeup until fully healed. Avoid any sun beds or holidays for at least 3 weeks after the treatment, and if going in the sun ensure the area is always covered by a sun block.
Avoid any chemical peels / exfoliation treatments for this period.
Continue to apply MicroBalm once a day. Hydration is key to wound healing.
Over time the pigment will gradually fade. Colour boosts around 12 – 18 months later will be required to maintain the treatment.
